Pepper Ann was the foundation bitch at Imprimis Airedales. She was also the foundation of so much more than just a kennel. Pepper Ann was the foundation of a wonderful way of life, an introduction into the world of show dogs, close friends, and an enrichment of myself I never thought possible. I was very fortunate to locate a great breeder, Pat Herndon, of Royalcrest Airedales. Pat believed in me and allowed me to obtain Pepper Ann, a promising young Airedale bitch just one year old. It is never easy for a novice to get a proper start in dogs, and Pat provided me with the help , guidance, and a quality Airedale to begin my show career. Pat entrusted Pepper Ann to my care, and believed I could care for, train, condition, and have Pepper Ann shown to her American Kennel Club Championship. Pepper Ann endured my novice beginnings, and she never faltered or tired of my fledgling training, grooming, and show training trials and tribulations. She had that Airedale way of looking right at me as if to say "We can do this". And we did. Pepper Ann became my first American Kennel Club Champion, and she hardily survived my neophyte learning years. Pepper Ann loved the added attention that comes with a show career, the extra hours of training, of being groomed, the hard exercise and conditioning, and going off to the shows. Pepper Ann was expertly handled by Mary Beecher to her Championship. Two litters were born from Pepper Ann, and she was as attentive and nurturing a mother as one could hope for. Her puppies were always well nursed, and well cared for, and have enriched the lives of their owners. I can only hope her puppies have brought the same joy to their owners as Pepper Ann brought to me. Yet as much as she relished the pomp and circumstances of the dog shows, let no form of wildlife dare think of entering our property! Her ancestral Terrier blood rose to the surface at the first hint of a raccoon, possum, or even a lowly chipmunk. While half of Pepper Ann loved me with all her heart, the other half believed "Hey, I'm a real Terrier", and across our fields she would go to chase the furred intruders. She delighted in doing the things Terriers were meant to do, and at the end of a session in the fields, she looked quite smug and satisfied with the excursions of her heritage. The greatest gift Pepper Ann gave me, that gift I treasure most, was not fully mine until she had gone to her reward. Pepper Ann had given me the gift of the true love and the true devotion an Airedale holds for those who share it's life. I carry her gift in my heart. Bye Pepper Ann. Lisa, Jim, and Alexandra |
