Welcome to Dog History, the web site dedicated to preserving and presenting the history of our friend the dog!

Dog History will present photographs, articles, and numerous links to dog web sites for your viewing, reading and entertainment pleasure. The dog has been bred for numerous tasks over many centuries. How often do we consider the many service, utilitarian and heroic roles of the dog in the history and developement of culture and society?

The ancestors of your dog may have been bred to hunt game for royalty, guard grand castles, or protect the herds and flocks of peasants from the ravages of predators.

Many breeds of dogs pulled sleds across a frozen tundra, transporting explorers, supplies, and local residents through rugged lands in weather conditions unimaginable for all but the strongest of heart and will.

Other breeds hauled milk and produce to open air marketplaces in ancient and recent Europe. Farmers and lords of the land of yore relied upon dogs game in spirit and heart to rid their lands of varmints harmful to the crops and harvest.

Armed forces and law enforcement communities around the world have called upon many breeds to serve in an heroic partnership, dependant and trusting each others skills and abilities to perform dangerous tasks.

For thousands of years the dog has been our companion, our guardian, our worker, and our friend. We need not dwell on the past, though once in a while it is enjoyable to take a few moments and reflect on days gone by.

Dog History endeavors to provide those enjoyable moments of reflection on days gone by.
